Sometimes this is just a short jerk/shudder, and other times it is up to a full second before power returns upon 2nd gear engaging. I also am getting what feels like slight slippage shudder at WOT at higher speeds. Along with other problems in my 2016 Malibu LT, I have also had the popping noise from the rear of the vehicle.
