Hey! This is just a guess. The input polling is done in a separate thread from the game/render loop and the mouse is polled at shorter intervals rather than at a rate of 16ms. These polled events are pushed onto a event queue (thread-safe obviously) and the game loop actually polls this queue appropriately and sets the game state accordingly.
