Removing the manifold got me enough clearance to extract the evaporator. Still a tough fight, but persistence paid off. I have replaced all the hoses, the evaporator, the expansion valve, the dryer and the condenser. Basically saved the POA and the compressor. I charged it and it is blowing a lovely 35 degrees!
